Business and Academic Exchange in Ecuador: MEBO International Sets Sail Again in Latin America

Business and Academic Exchange in Ecuador: MEBO International Sets Sail Again in Latin America

From September 3 to 9, 2022, MEBO International traveled to Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador, for a week of business visits and academic exchange. Back in 2010, MEBO International, together with long-term partner Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (Julphar) and Ecuador's Difare Group, signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Over the following decade, MEBO Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO) and regenerative medical technology developed rapidly in Ecuador, with the ointment becoming the leading product in its category.

The first stop was Difare's office center in Quito. Market development manager Jorge Duran analyzed how MEBO ointment could be developed more deeply under current policy; hospital channel manager Alex Frixone and product manager Katiuska Naranjo reviewed 2022 market share, sales, and competitive analysis; and medical director Dr. Iván Ludeña with medical advisor Dr. Eduardo Pactong presented the year's technical training activities for doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, plus next year's academic promotion plan. The two sides also preliminarily confirmed plans for a Regenerative Life Action under the UN 'Every Woman Every Child' China partnership network.

On September 6, MEBO International and Difare's OTC team held a business and academic meeting on scar ointment, where MEBO technical director Xu Weiwei shared the latest global clinical data. On September 7 in Guayaquil, the delegation met Christian Konanz, General Manager of Difare's Dyvenpro S.A., agreeing that introducing new products is key to brand maintenance, with an initial import plan drafted.

The following day, the team visited the clinic of Dr. Isabel Atocha, who has years of experience applying regenerative medical technology in diabetic foot care. She presented four patient cases — three of whom had been told elsewhere that amputation was necessary. After switching to regenerative medical technology, their wounds are healing well and amputation was avoided.

The delegation also visited local pharmacies and met experienced local physicians, including Dr. Carlos Marquez, President of the Ecuadorian Burn Association, and Dr. Fernando Quintana, Head of Burns at Luis Vernaza Hospital. The trip concluded at Difare's 23,615 m² logistics center — built in 2020 with Austrian automation systems, processing 60,000 orders and two million products daily — where staff instantly located MEBO products among thousands of brands.

Though brief, the week in Ecuador was highly productive. MEBO International and Difare took a major step forward together — and even in the farthest corners of Latin America, MEBO keeps moving toward new achievements.
